It was a warm, late July day in Glacier National Park. Summer was finally in full swing, so most of the hiking trails were fully accessible. Stephen and I embarked on our second attempt of the Iceberg Lake trail, a five mile journey to an iceberg-studded lake. In my excitement to make it to the lake, I hiked at my usual pace (really quickly), leaving Stephen in my dust. This frustrated him, and after some yelling and tears, I decided to hike at his pace. We arrived at the lake and found a secluded area to enjoy the view. Stephen looked at me, and said, “We started this hike as boyfriend and girlfriend, but I don’t want to return that way.” He got down on one knee and revealed a ring. We hiked back, hand in hand, my ring shining in the sunlight, excited to finish our hike newly engaged.
